Our Story

Double J Ranch began its journey in the mid-1950s and quickly became one of North Carolina's most notable ranches. Spanning over 600 acres, the ranch was a testament to hard work, passion, and a love for the land.

The ranch, initially renowned for its horses, cattle, and hogs, was a labor of love for Mr. Jones and Jean Jones. Their particular passion for horses was evident as they owned over 125 horses from the 1960s to the early 1990s, showcasing them at competitions and bringing home numerous awards from the American Quarter Horse Association. Their prized horse, Cabin Bar, became a legend in its own right, a testament to their dedication.

The ranch's origins were deeply rooted in cattle and hog farming. Originally from Georgia, Buck Jones saw an opportunity in North Carolina's rural landscape to establish a thriving cattle and hog business. At its peak, the ranch processed 35-40 hogs daily, employing 15-20 people. A mill beside the hog houses produced animal feed, and storage houses kept hay for the 250-head cattle herd, primarily Angus crossed genetics. The cattle, known for their superior quality, contributed to producing the ranch's renowned hot dogs, which boasted a distinct flavor and texture.

Over time, the ranch evolved with the changing landscape and community needs. The slaughter operation ceased, and the encroaching 70 bypass claimed part of the land. The once bustling hog business was phased out due to space constraints. The passion for horses dwindled in the late 1980s to 1990s, leading to the end of the show business and a focus on breeding. Eventually, Jean Jones donated the remaining horses to the Boys and Girls Club as her health declined.

Today, Double J Ranch continues its legacy through its cattle operation. In the 1990s, the ranch expanded by acquiring Turner Farm, adding about 500 acres to its domain. With Adam Baker and Brandy Crocker, now at the helm, the ranch has seen renewed vigor. Expanding operations to grass fed and grain fed finish options. As well as adding new fences, repairing buildings, and more fertile pastures have revitalized the land, ensuring that the legacy of Double J Ranch endures. The ranch produces 1,500 to 2,000 round hay bales annually, feeding the cattle through the winter. With dedicated management and a steadfast commitment to sustainable farming practices, Double J Ranch remains a cornerstone of quality and tradition in the community.
